THE SHORT: Inconsistent, sometimes awful customer service THE LONG: Very rarely do I leave any negative reviews on a store, but I'm willing to make an exception here. I go to this store upwards or three times a week, simply because it's the only option around. A select few employees are absolutely awesome. There are a bunch though that aren't worth the free paint sticks they give out. I've had two of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had in this store and that's saying a lot, considering I also shop at Walmart. The first time I called in and spoke to a manager who was great. He even agreed that he's noticed issues with the employee I described. That employee still works there in the same area with the same attitude. Shocker. The second experience took place about an hour ago. While checking out, the cashier didn't say a word to us until we discovered a clearance item didn't have a barcode. That's cool, I don't need to know your life story, but a "how are you" is still a pleasantry in this country, the last time I checked. The non verbal thing is fine, but he also rang our items up at the pace of a sedated sloth. It's cool if you hate your job and prefer to communicate with body language instead of words, but don't waste my time. Getting back to the clearance item....So we find out it didn't have a barcode. He didn't say a word. Not a "I'll call the people back in that department", not even a "Could you try to find another". Nothing. Complete apathy. Soooo...my wife took the initiative to do a half marathon across the store to try to find another one with a bar code. She couldn't find one, but took a pic of the bar code on the shelf. I won't even describe how that went over. After getting the item to ring up, it rang at the wrong price. Shocker #2. Manager override? You got it! Stood at the counter for 5 minutes without a manager overriding? You bet ya. So tired of having the life sucked out of me on a Sunday, I opted to pay full price for said item. The icing on top of the cake: I had to grab my own bags from behind the counter. Cherry on the icing: he didn't even put everything in the bags, so we had to go back in for an encore. My recommendation: If you can, travel an hour to the Short Pump or Waynesboro Home Depot. If you can't, be prepared for an experience straight out of the DMV.
